Can’t see it, but how can you have a prequel when the original was how they figured out how to activate the stargate. I don’t has an understand.

The new prequel is set in 1928 when the gate was found. Presumably, someone figured out how to open the gate, high jinks ensued, then the gate was shut down and stored.
